The Orange Economy

The Orange Economy also known as the Creative Economy encompasses the world's creative and cultural industries—spanning film, music, design, fashion, gaming, publishing, and digital media—where innovation, knowledge, and intellectual property generate economic value. First introduced in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2013 and popularized by the Inter-American Development Bank, it has since become a globally recognized growth engine: generating over $2.3 trillion in annual revenue, accounting for more than 3% of global GDP, and employing nearly 50 million people worldwide, with especially strong representation among young people and women. Every $1 invested in the creative economy generates roughly $2.50 in broader economic wealth, and international bodies from the UN to the G20 have formally recognized creative industries as key drivers of sustainable, inclusive growth.

Despite this scale, meaningful entry points for underserved creators remain scarce. Orange Spark exists to change that, turning a massive, fast-growing sector into a genuine pathway to economic opportunity for people who've historically been shut out of it. Our work addresses persistent barriers like limited access to finance, informality, skills gaps, weak IP protection, and restricted market access through three interconnected pillars: developing individual talent, strengthening the institutions that support creatives, and ensuring equitable access to the orange economy—all built on a foundation of community, collaboration, and shared purpose.
